Finally Autumn and finally it starts again, the vegan Baking time ! There is a spice, since for quite some time in my kitchen may not be missing and that is Pumpkin Pie Spice. I once bought a ready mixed can and let’s say “well”, perfect is something else. That’s why I started at some point to make my Spice Blends spices myself. Especially for spices that are not in season all year round, this really makes sense. This way you can mix yourself a smaller amount and consume it entirely at your pace. You don’t need to have any special exotic spices at home either, just open up your spice cabinet and go!

In Germany, you can’t find the spice mixture on every corner, but you can it is all the more popular in the USA. Normally it consists of:

  • Cinnamon
  • Ginger
  • Cloves
  • Nutmeg
  • Allspice

What is Allspice? Originally, Allspice, also called Pimento or Jamaica Pimento, is a powder made from the dried, unripe fruit of the tree Pimenta diocina. At some point, however, it was discovered that it tastes like a mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. That’s why I leave this spice out of my spice mix.

Nothing could be simpler, for this simply mix all the spices in ground form and put them in an airtight container. I use a small jar with a screw top for this.

You really can’t go far wrong with mixing, except for a little forethought in the weighting of the spices. Cloves like to leave a quite bitter flavor, so I prefer to use them sparingly. The same applies to nutmeg, here too, less is more. Best you hold Pretty much follow my dosage instructions.

At the end, you’ll get a jar full of homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice that you can use for fall-winter cooking. Of course, the mixture is also perfect for Hot drinks and for giving as a gift.

  • Place all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well with a spoon until everything is combined into a uniform powder.
